I found about a new service called ChaCha for SMS answers. It is a pretty neat idea where actual peope answer your questions that come in via a text message. What you do is SMS your question to 242242. To find out more go to http://chacha.com/. I found out about Chacha in a cnn article (http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/ptech/09/18/chacha.kgb/).
I was out with Friends and we were talking about a sign in Aberdeen Washington that reads “Come as you are.” we were trying to figure out if the song by Nirvana “Come as You are” was an inspiration for the sign, or the song was inspired by the sign. Given the article I read this sounded like a perfect use for ChaCha. As you can see asking questions to ChaCha is a little like being a lawyer, you have to know what to ask. The exchange below took some time due to the lag between a question and the answer, then trying to figure out how to ask the next question.
Reed Says: Did the song ‘come as you are’ by nivanah get the name from the town motto of aberdeen, washington, or did the town adopt the motto after the song?
ChaCah Replies: There is no way of knowing exactly what that song means, but in Aberdeen, WA there is a road sign that reads “Come As You Are”.
Reed Says: Why is there a road sign in aberdeen, washington that reads “come as you are”. Was it put there after the song by nirvana or before?
ChaCha Says: ChaCha does not understand what you are trying to ask. Please rephrase your question. ChaCha for now!
Reed Says: Why does the roadsign in aberdeen, washington read “come as you are?”
ChaCha Says: The road sign Come As You Are is in tribute to Kurt Cobain from Nirvana, that was put up after his death. ChaCha again soon!
After this exchange, my wife called me a geek, which spurred another debate about the difference between a geek and nerd… So, of course, I asked ChaCha.
Reed Says: What is the difference between a geek and a nerd?
ChaCha Says: There is a difference, but only after the 47th decimal place. Want More Differences?
I decided that geeks and nerds shared enough of the same genome that more differences were not required.
